At the Town of Mohawk Fire District, community comes first. Our response team, the Town of Mohawk Fire Department, consists of over 30 dedicated volunteer firefighters proudly serving the Town of Mohawk and the Village of Fonda, protecting nearly 35 square miles of homes, families, and local businesses. We’re your neighbors — stepping up when it matters most.
No matter where you are in life—starting fresh or ready to serve—there’s a place for you here.
You don’t need experience, just commitment and a willingness to serve.
Our firefighters respond to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, vehicle crashes, severe storms, and rescues.
All active members complete state-approved training, including CPR, Basic Exterior Fire Operations (BEFO), and Interior Fire Operations (IFO) — all of which are free within the first year.
We also offer advanced training, including Officer Development, Fire Instructor, Rescue Technician, and more.
Many members use this experience to launch full-time careers in firefighting, law enforcement, and other public safety positions.
Must be 16 or older to join; interior firefighting is limited to those 18+.
Not everyone runs into burning buildings — but everyone can help. Our Support Firefighters play critical roles in keeping our team safe, organized, and ready.
Whether you’re retired, busy with family, or simply want to make a difference, your time matters here.
Must be 16 or older.
We provide free training for every role. From CPR to Firefighter 1, we set you up for success.
Want to advance? We cover additional certifications in rescue, leadership, and command. These skills are valuable both in and out of the fire service.
If you’re a trained firefighter or support member looking for a new volunteer home, we welcome lateral members.
Whether you’ve relocated, left another district, or are seeking new opportunities, we value your experience and are ready to support you.
Join a team where your training, time, and passion are respected.
